Pediatric Allergic Rhinitis: Symptom and Causes

Symptoms

  • Nasal congestion, sneezing and watery discharge
  • Rhinorrhea (persistent watery mucus discharge from nose)
  • Itching of the palate, nose, or eyes
  • Snoring
  • Frequent sore throats
  • Constant clearing of the throat, cough

Causes

An allergen is an agent that triggers an allergic reaction. When a person with allergic rhinitis breathes in an allergen such as pollen or dust, the body releases chemicals, including histamine. This causes allergy symptoms.
The most common causes of allergic rhinitis include the following:
  • Tree house pollen
  • Dust mites
  • Mold or fungus
  • Animal dander
