Temsirolimus treats a certain type of kidney cancer. Women should take measures to avoid getting pregnant while on this medicine and for 12 weeks after stopping treatment. Temsirolimus is a prescription medication used to treat advanced renal cell carcinoma (RCC). RCC is a type of cancer that begins in the kidney. Temsirolimus belongs to a group of drugs called kinase inhibitors. These work by blocking the action of the abnormal protein that tells the cancer cells to multiply. This may help slow the growth of tumors.

  • Temsirolimus can harm an unborn baby. Use effective birth control to prevent pregnancy while you are using temsirolimus, whether you are a man or a woman. Temsirolimus use by either parent may cause birth defects.
  • It is not known whether temsirolimus passes into breast milk or if it could harm a nursing baby. You should not breast-feed while using this medicine.
  • Avoid contact with people who have infections that can be spread to others.
  • It may raise blood sugar level monitor blood sugar level regularly while taking this medication.
  • Monitor kidney function, blood cholesterol levels, blood glucose levels, and complete blood cell counts regularly while taking this medication.
