Food and Nutrition

Foods to be taken
  • Omega 3 fatty acid foods like fish, walnuts, flax seeds etc which have anti-inflammatory properties.
  • Pineapple juice contains an enzyme bromelain. The chemicals in bromelain stimulate the body to produce natural substances that relieve pain and reduce inflammation.
  • Aloe vera functions primarily in relieving inflammation associated with trigger finger. Either it may be applied to the affected area or taken as a supplement.

  • Refined and processed foods

Yoga and Exercise

  • Massage the affected knuckle as it will facilitate blood flow to the area, which will lubricate the joint and prepare it for movement. 
  • Use your other hand to slowly and gently bend and straighten your affected finger, moving it through the largest range of motion possible. Bend and straighten your finger 10 to 15 times.
  • Stretch your finger as stretching is important not only for your muscles but also for the tendons and ligaments in your affected finger.
  • Exercises like slowly opening and closing the hand, grasping a tennis ball or therapeutic clays often help relieve the pain and stiffness associated with the condition.

Home Remedies

  • Apply cold/warm compresses for 5-15 minutes on the area which is most swollen and tender
  • Placing the hand in warm water several times throughout a day to relax the tendons and muscles
  • Gently try stretching the fingers to enhance range of motion
  • Do self-massage for two to three minutes
  • Rest the affected finger
