Precautions, which may help to prevent or minimize the occurrence of myasthenia crisis, include:
  • Eating slowly and resting between bites
  • Wearing an eye patch
  • Avoiding extreme heat
  • Avoid smoking

  • Avoiding crowds and contact with people with respiratory infections, such as a cold or the flu
  • Alternate performance of physical activities with periods of rest
  • Using stress-reduction techniques and avoiding emotional extremes

  • Facial muscle involvement causing a mask-like appearance; a smile may appear more like a snarl
  • Difficulty in pronouncing words

  • Severe muscle weakness which gets worse by activity
  • Double vision and drooping eyelids
  • Leg or arm weakness
  • Swallowing difficulty (dysphagia)
  • Speaking difficulty (dysarthria)
