Lumbar Spondylosis: Meaning, Diagnosis and Overview

What is Lumbar Spondylosis?

Lumbar Spondylosis is a medical term used to describe common, age-related degeneration in in the joints of the lumbar vertebrae (lower back). This area is especially prone to deterioration because the lower back supports upright posture and many different bending and twisting movements, and also because it supports such a large amount of weight.

Recovery Time

By proper home remedies the pain gets relieved within 3-4 weeks. If symptoms are more prolonged (4-12 weeks), it’s better to refer to physiotherapy for a multimodal treatment strategy. This may take few months for recovery.

Diagnosis

Diagnosis is done by medical history and physical examination and may order certain imaging studies which include plain x-rays films, CT scans, or MRI of the lumbar spine.
