Tinea Capitis: Symptom and Causes


Symptoms include:
  • Itching of the scalp
  • Red areas or bald patches
  • Possibly areas with swelling, sores, or irritated skin
  • Hair loss
  • Tender or painful areas on the scalp
  • Dry and scaly skin on the scalp


Ringworm of the scalp is caused by one of several varieties of mold-like fungi called dermatophytes. Tinea capitis or ringworm can spread easily from contact with the skin of the infected person, from animals.
