What is Palpitations?

Heart palpitations are heartbeat sensations that you suddenly become aware of because they feel like your heart is “pounding” or “racing feelings. They can be felt in your chest, throat or neck. They usually aren’t serious or harmful, though, and often go away on their own.


Diagnosis is done by physical examination (listens to your heart using a stethoscope). Other tests may be included like:
  • Electrocardiogram (ECG)
  • Holter monitoring
  • Event recording
  • Echocardiogram
