Overview

RIFAPENTINE is a Schedule H antibiotic.
Rifapentine is an antibiotic that fights bacteria.Rifapentine is used together with other medicines to treat active tuberculosis (TB) in adults and children who are at least 12 years old.Rifapentine must always be used in combination with other tuberculosis medications.It works by killing or stopping the growth of TB organisms. May produce a red-orange discoloration of bodily fluids.
It will not work for viral infections (such as common cold, flu). Unnecessary use or misuse of any antibiotic can lead to its decreased effectiveness.

RIFAPENTINE is generally taken With Food.

Precautions

  • Follow all directions on your medicine label and package. You should not take this medicine if you are allergic to rifapentine, rifabutin  or rifampin.
  • You should not breast-feed while using this medicine. Rifapentine may cause a red-orange discoloration of breast milk.
  • Do not give this medicine to a child without medical advice.
  • Follow all directions on your prescription label. Do not take this medicine in larger or smaller amounts or for longer than recommended.
  • To make swallowing easier, you may crush the rifapentine tablet and sprinkle the medicine into a spoonful of pudding, applesauce, or other soft food.
  • Swallow this mixture right away. Do not save the mixture for later use.
  • Do not take extra medicine to make up the missed dose.
  • Do not use anti-diarrhea medicine unless your doctor tells you to.It may cause dizziness, do not drive a car or operate machinery while taking this medication. Avoid long-term use of this medication; otherwise it may cause secondary infection.
  • Do not have any immunizations/vaccinations while using this medication unless your doctor tells you to.

RIFAPENTINE : Acne, Constipation, Nausea, Vomit, Loss Of Appetite, Head Headache, Eyes Redness, Lower Back Pain, Feet Swelling, Black (tar) Colored Stools, Bloody Or Red Colored Stools, Abdomen Pain, Fever, Throat Soreness, Fatigue (tiredness), Eyes Yellow Eyes, Blood Or Red Colored Urine

Serious Side-Effects

RIFAPENTINE : Joint Pain, Easy Bleeding, Dark Colored (brown) Urine
