SYNDOPA CR 125 TAB

Overview

SYNDOPA CR 125 TAB is a Schedule H drug.

SYNDOPA CR 125 TAB is composed of: LEVODOPA (100.0 MG), CARBIDOPA (25.0 MG)

Levodopa is used alone or in combination with carbidopa to treat Parkinson’s disease, sometimes referred to as shaking palsy. Some patients require the combination of medicine, while others benefit from levodopa alone.Levodopa works by being converted to dopamine, a chemical messenger that is needed to control the movement through transmission of signals in the brain.Levodopa is also used to relieve bone pain caused by cancer and to control pain caused by shingles.

Carbidopa is used with another medicine called levodopa to treat the symptoms of Parkinson’s disease (stiffness, tremors, spasms, poor muscle control). Symptoms of Parkinson’s disease may be caused by low levels of a chemical called dopamine (DOE pa meen) in the brain. Levodopa is converted to dopamine in the brain. Carbidopa helps prevent the breakdown of levodopa before it can reach the brain and take effect. Carbidopa is only used in combination with levodopa. Carbidopa has no effect when used alone. Carbidopa is also used with levodopa to treat muscle symptoms similar to Parkinson’s disease that are caused by certain drugs such as chlorpromazine (Thorazine), fluphenazine (Prolixin), perphenazine (Trilafon), and others.
Carbidopa is always given with levodopa. It works by preventing levodopa from being broken down before it reaches the brain. This allows for a lower dose of levodopa, which causes less nausea and vomiting.
