Food and Nutrition

 Foods to be taken
  • During infection eat in moderation, with an emphasis on whole grains, beans, lentils, lightly cooked vegetables, soups, and cold-pressed oils
  • Include cayenne pepper, garlic, onion, and horseradish in your soups and meals, to help dissolve and eliminate excess mucus
  • Drink plenty of pure quality water

Home Remedies

  • Apply a warm, moist washcloth to your face several times a day
  • Drink plenty of fluids to thin the mucus
  • Inhale steam 2 – 4 times per day
  • Spray with over the counter nasal saline several times per day
  • Use a humidifier
  • Use a Neti pot to flush the sinuses. Add noniodized salt and warm sterile (not tap) water to the pot. Mix it well, place the spout in one nostril, lean over the sink, and gently flush out allergens and mucus. If you are really clogged, try using it after a hot shower.
  • Sleep with your head elevated
