Pediatric Conjunctivitis: Symptom and Causes

Symptoms

  • Redness in the white area of the eye and inner lid
  • Increased tears
  • Burning and itchy eyes
  • Green or white discharge from the eye
  • Blurred vision
  • Increased sensitivity to light
  • Thick yellow discharge over the eyelashes, especially after sleep
  • Swelling of the eyelids

 

Causes

Conjunctivitis can be caused due to:
  • Bacterial or viral infection which is highly contagious
  • Irritants such as shampoos, dirt, smoke, and pool chlorine
  • Allergic reactions due to dust, pollens
  • Allergic reactions also affect some of the lens wearers and are not contagious
