Overview

ZAFIRLUKAST is a Schedule H drug.
Zafirlukast is a leukotriene inhibitor. Leukotrienes are chemicals your body releases when you breathe in an allergen (such as pollen). These chemicals cause swelling in your lungs and tightening of the muscles around your airways, which can result in asthma symptoms. Zafirlukast is used for chronic treatment of asthma, and to prevent asthma attacks in adults and children as young as 5 years old. Do not give zafirlukast to a child younger than 5 years without a doctor’s advice.

Precautions

Caution should be exercised in patients with history of liver disease, mental problems, suicidal thoughts, any allergy, elderly, during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Avoid decreasing the dosage without doctor’s advice. Continue the use of inhalers if you have used it before the treatment. Patient may develop with increased risk of liver problems; monitor liver functions regularly.
