ISOFLURANE is a Schedule H drug.
Isoflurane is a general anaesthetic. It works by causing reversible loss of consciousness. This allows surgical procedures to be carried out without pain and distress.You may experience nausea after surgery after receiving this medication.

Precautions

  • Avoid driving and doing other tasks or actions that call for you to be alert until the effects of isoflurane wear off and you feel fully awake.
  • Talk with your doctor before you drink alcohol or use other drugs and natural products that slow your actions.
  • Use with care in children. Talk with the doctor.
  • If you are 65 or older, use isoflurane with care. You could have more side effects.
  • Other drugs may be given before isoflurane to help avoid side effects.
  • This medicine is given on an as needed basis.
  • You will be continuously monitored for blood potassium levels during the operation, as the drug is known to raise blood potassium levels.
  • You may be constantly monitored during entire anaesthetic procedure to observe any signs of low blood pressure, changes in pulse rate, irregular heart beat and ventilation.Do not take if allergic to isoflurane or any of its ingredients or any other inhalational anaesthetics.
  • Avoid if Patients has past or family history of malignant hyperthermia (rapid rise in body temperature).
  • Avoid if Patients has history of porphyria (a rare blood pigment disorder).

Serious Side-Effects

ISOFLURANE : Breathlessness, Respiratory Failure, Acute Liver Failure, Difficulty Swallowing, Difficulty Breathing, Shortness Of Breath, Slow Or Irregular Breathing, Dark Colored (brown) Urine, Fatigue (tiredness), Eyes Yellow Eyes, Abdomen Pain
