Overview

RIZATRIPTAN is a Schedule H drug.
Rizatriptan is a headache medicine that narrows the blood vessels around the brain. Rizatriptan also reduces substances in the body that can trigger headache pain, nausea, sensitivity to light and sound, and other migraine symptoms. Rizatriptan is used to treat migraine headaches. Rizatriptan will only treat a headache that has already begun. It will not prevent headaches or reduce the number of attacks.

Route of Administration: Oral

Precautions

It may affect your blood sugar. Check blood sugar levels closely. It may make you drowsy. Do not drive a car or operate machinery while taking this medication. Do not drink alcohol while taking this medication. Ensure an interval of at least 24 hr after stopping an ergotamine compound and starting a serotonin (5-HT1) agonist. Caution needed for patients with history of mild to moderate liver or kidney impairment; coronary artery disease; pregnancy, breastfeeding, seizures, elderly. Patient may develop with increased risk of Serotonin Syndrome with the following symptoms: increased heart rate, shivering, sweating, dilated pupils,etc . If it is so consult with your healthcare provider.

RIZATRIPTAN : Serotonin Syndrome, Rapid Heart Rate (pulse), Hallucinations, Loss Of Coordination, Nausea, Vomit, Agitation, Restless Or Irritability

RIZATRIPTAN can interfere with: Hyperlipidemia, Obesity, Diabetes Mellitus, Ischemic Heart Disease, Menopause, Myocardial Infarction, Cerebrovascular Insufficeincy, Acute Liver Failure, Migraine, Phenylketonuria, Acute Renal Failure
