FREKOF TAB is a Schedule H drug.

FREKOF TAB is composed of: PARACETAMOL (500.0 MG), GUAIFENESIN (50.0 MG), EPHEDRINE (5.0 MG), BROMHEXINE (4.0 MG), CHLORPHENIRAMINE (2.0 MG)

Paracetamol is a pain reliever and a fever reducer. The exact mechanism of action of is not known. Paracetamol is used to treat many conditions such as a headache, muscle aches, arthritis, backache, toothaches, colds, and fevers. It relieves pain in mild arthritis but has no effect on the underlying inflammation and swelling of the joint.

Guaifenesin is an expectorant. It helps loosen congestion in your chest and throat, making it easier to cough out through your mouth.Guaifenesin is used to reduce chest congestion caused by the common cold, infections, or allergies.It promotes lower respiratory tract drainage by thinning the mucus in the air passages to make it easier to cough up the mucus and clear the airways. 


Ephedrine works on the blood vessels and increases the blood flow to heart and lungs, thereby improving the disease condition. Ephedrine is used in the treatment of hypotension following spinal anaesthesia. Ephedrine is used for temporary relief of shortness of breath, chest tightness, and wheezing due to bronchial asthma. Ephedrine may also be used for other conditions as determined by your doctor. Ephedrine is a decongestant and bronchodilator. It works by reducing swelling and constricting blood vessels in the nasal passages and widening the lung airways, allowing you to breathe more easily.

Chlorpheniramine is an antihistamine that reduces the effects of natural chemical histamine in the body. Histamine can produce symptoms of sneezing, itching, watery eyes, and runny nose Chlorpheniramine is used to treat runny nose, sneezing, itching, and watery eyes caused by allergies, thecommon cold, or the flu..

Precautions for FREKOF TAB and its Constituents


Caution should be exercised in patients with history of asthma, bleeding problems, growths in the nose, heart, kidney or liver disease, liver inflammation, high blood pressure, chickenpox, anxiety, trouble in sleeping, ulcers, stomach problems, stroke, Kawasaki syndrome, any allergy, who are taking other medications, during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Avoid alcohol consumption. It should not be used in children with infections such as flu, chickenpox or viral infections. Avoid large amount of caffeinated beverages while taking this medication. It may reduce platelet counts; avoid injury or bruising.
  • You should not use guaifenesin if you are allergic to guaifenesin.
  • Use guaifenesin exactly as directed on the label, or as prescribed by your doctor. Do not use it in larger amounts or for longer than recommended.
  • Drink extra fluids to help loosen the congestion and lubricate your throat while you are taking this medication.
  • Take guaifenesin with food if it upsets your stomach.Measure the liquid form of guaifenesin with a special dose-measuring spoon or cup, not a regular table spoon.
  • Do not crush, chew, break, or open a controlled-release, delayed-release, or extended-release tablet or capsule. Swallow it whole. Breaking or opening the pill may cause too much of the drug to be released at one time.
  • Do not take extra medicine to make up the missed dose.
  • This medication may impair your thinking or reactions. Be careful if you drive or do anything that requires you to be alert.
  • The liquid forms and powder packets of this medication may contain aspartame. If you have phenylketonuria  or any other condition that requires you to restrict your intake of aspartame (or phenylalanine), consult your doctor or pharmacist about using this product safely.
  • Use within 4 weeks of opening the bottle; discard after 4 weeks of opening even if not used

Caution should be exercised in patients with history of heart disease, overactive thyroid, diabetes, high blood pressure, increased eye pressure, kidney impairment, prostate enlargement, elderly, during pregnancy. It may cause dizziness, drowsiness, do not drive a car or operate machinery while taking this medication. Avoid excess dosage.
