Acute pancreatitis
  • Upper abdominal pain that radiates into the back
  • Swollen and tender abdomen
  • Nausea and vomiting
  • Fever
  • Increased heart rate
  • Bloating
Chronic pancreatitis
  • Weight loss
  • Diarrhoea and oily stools and also the symptoms mentioned in acute pancreatitis
  • Loss of appetite
  • Flatulence


Major causes of pancreatitis are gall stone and heavy alcohol consumption
Other rare causes are
  • Trauma or surgery to the pancreas
  • Inherited abnormalities and disorders
  • Viral infection
  • Medications (Diuretics)
