Food and Nutrition

Food to be taken
  • Coconut water to get rid of dehydration
  • Plenty of fluids like (fruit juices, water, soda etc.)
  • Properly cooked food
  • Sour fruits (lemon, orange) can kill cholera bacilli  in a short period of time
  • Honey
  • Onions allays thirst and restlessness and the patient feels better.
  • Black pepper
Food to avoid
  • Sea foods especially fish and shellfish
  • Meat
  • Raw vegetables
  • Ice made outside
  • Junk food (road side food)
  • Unpasteurized milk and  milk products

Home Remedies

  • Take plenty of fluids (mainly ORS)
  • Apply hot-blanket pack or take hot-full bath followed by vigorous cold rubbing with towel
  • Apply ice bag or cold compress over stomach, throat and spine
  • Lemon juice drunk either sweet or salted can help
  • Always boil water before drinking
  • Maintain hygienic environment
