ZIPRASIDONE

Overview

ZIPRASIDONE is a Schedule H drug.
Ziprasidone is an antipsychotic medication. It works by changing the effects of chemicals in the brain. Ziprasidone is used to treat schizophrenia and the manic symptoms of bipolar disorder (manic depression) in adults and children who are at least 10 years old.

How Do I Take It?

ZIPRASIDONE is generally taken With Food.
Route of Administration: Oral

Precautions

Caution needed for patients with history of Alzheimer’s disease, coronary artery disease, irregular heartbeat, low blood pressure, severe dizziness/fainting, diabetes (including family history), stroke, seizures, Neuroleptic malignant syndrome, obesity, swallowing problems, pneumonia, low white blood cell count, liver or kidney impairment, during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Patient may develop an increased risk of QT prolongation, if it so, stop the medication. It may make you drowsy or dizzy, do not drive a car or operate machinery while taking this medication. Monitor ECG in patients who show symptoms of torsades de pointes (e.g. syncope, dizziness, and palpitations). If on concurrent diuretic therapy monitor the level of serum electrolytes.

Serious Side-Effects

ZIPRASIDONE : Difficulty Swallowing, Body Muscle Cramps Or Spasms (painful), Mood Swings, Restless Or Irritability

Rare Side-Effects

ZIPRASIDONE : Tardive Dyskinesia, Neuroleptic Malignant Syndrome, Skin Rash, Increased Thirst, Frequent Urination, Fainting, Dizziness, Abdomen Pain, Eyes Yellow Eyes, Confusion, Fatigue (tiredness)

ZIPRASIDONE can interfere with: Dementia, Alcoholism, Respiratory Failure, Neuroleptic Malignant Syndrome, Tardive Dyskinesia, Diarrhoea, Hypokalemia, Magnesium Deficiency, Myocardial Infarction, Congestive Heart Disease, Heart Arrhythmias, Depression, Bipolar Disorder, Dysphagia, Seizure, Neutropenia, Diabetes Mellitus, Obesity, Hypotension, Vomiting, Syncope, Ischemic Heart Disease, Cerebrovascular Insufficeincy, Hyperlipidemia, Priapism, Peyronie Disease, Sickle Cell Anemia, Thalassemia, Multiple Myeloma, Leukemia, Cerebral Cavernous Malformation, Breast Cancer, Hyperprolactinaemia, Acute Liver Failure, Parkinsonism
