Lanthanum Carbonate inhibits the absorption of phosphate from the intestine and lower the phosphate levels in the blood.Lanthanum is a natural mineral that works by binding to phosphate in the foods you eat. The phosphate then passes out of your body in your stool.

Precautions

  • You should not use lanthanum carbonate if you have a bowel obstruction or severe constipation.
  • You should not use lanthanum carbonate if you are allergic to it.
  • Follow all directions on your prescription label. Your doctor may occasionally change your dose to make sure you get the best results.
  • Do not use this medicine in larger or smaller amounts or for longer than recommended.Take lanthanum carbonate with food or immediately after eating.
  • The chewable tablet should be chewed completely before you swallow it. Do not swallow whole. While using lanthanum carbonate, you may need frequent blood tests.
  • Do not take extra medicine to make up the missed dose.
  • It may cause dizziness, drowsiness. Do not drive a car or operate machinery while taking this medication.
  • Do not take non-prescription antacids while taking lanthanum carbonate
