LEVETIRACETAM

Overview

Levetiracetam is an anti-epileptic drug, also called an anticonvulsant. Levetiracetam is used to treat partial onset seizures in adults and children who are at least 1 month old. Levetiracetam is also used to treat tonic-clonic seizures in people who are at least 6 years old, and myoclonic seizures in people who are at least 12 years old.

Precautions

Caution should be exercised in patients with the history of liver or kidney problems, allergic reactions, patients undergoing haemodialysis, pregnancy and breastfeeding. Patient may develop mood changes, suicidal thoughts. It may impair ability to drive or operate machinery during initial therapy.

Symptoms of Overdosage

LEVETIRACETAM over-dosage can result in: Drowsiness, Agitation, Slow Or Irregular Breathing, Weakness (generalized), Fainting

Common Side-Effects

LEVETIRACETAM : Dizziness, Fatigue (tiredness)

Serious Side-Effects

LEVETIRACETAM : Anemia, Loss Of Coordination, Hips Difficulty Walking, Mood Swings, Anxiety, Fever, Chills, Pale Skin, Rapid Heart Rate (pulse), Easy Bruising

Rare Side-Effects

LEVETIRACETAM : Skin Rash, Difficulty Breathing, Body Itching, Face Swelling
