Overview

HYDROXYUREA is a Schedule H drug.
Hydroxyurea affects certain cells in the body, such as cancer cells or sickled red blood cells.
Hydroxyurea is used to treat chronic myeloid leukemia, ovarian cancer, and certain types of skin cancer (squamous cell cancer of the head and neck). Hydroxyurea is also used to reduce pain episodes and the need for blood transfusions in people with sickle cell anemia. Hydroxyurea will not cure sickle cell anemia.

Route of Administration: Oral

Precautions

Caution should be exercised in patients with history of AIDS, who have undergone radiation therapy, liver or kidney disease, any allergy, who are taking other medications, during pregnancy and breastfeeding. It may reduce platelet counts; avoid injury or bruising. It may be harmful if it gets on the skin; avoid direct contact with hands. Avoid vaccination while taking this medication.

Symptoms of Overdosage

HYDROXYUREA over-dosage can result in: Drowsiness, Mouth Soreness, Hands Swelling, Feet Swelling

HYDROXYUREA : Nausea, Vomit, Loss Of Appetite, Constipation

Serious Side-Effects

HYDROXYUREA : Black Colored Skin, Mood Swings, Confusion, Hallucinations, Seizures (uncontrollable Jerking Of Limbs), Shortness Of Breath, Chest Pain

Rare Side-Effects

HYDROXYUREA : Skin Rash, Dizziness, Difficulty Breathing, Face Swelling, Body Itching
