Hydroxychloroquine is a quinoline medicine used to treat or prevent malaria, a disease caused by parasites that enter the body through the bite of a mosquito. Hydroxychloroquine is also an antirheumatic medicine and is used to treat symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis and discoid or systemic lupus erythematosus.

Precautions for PLAQUENIL TAB and its Constituents


Caution should be exercised in patients with history of eye defects, impaired liver or kidney functions, blood disorder, psoriasis, pregnancy, and breastfeeding. Monitor complete blood count in patients receiving prolonged therapy. Perform eye examination, test periodically for muscle weakness. Avoid alcohol consumption while taking this medication.

Symptoms of Overdosage

HYDROXYCHLOROQUINE over-dosage can result in: Drowsiness, Slow Heart Rate (pulse), Chest Pain, Dizziness, Seizures (uncontrollable Jerking Of Limbs)

HYDROXYCHLOROQUINE : Irritable Bowel Syndrome, Skin Rash, Abdomen Stomach Cramps, Body Muscle Cramps Or Spasms (painful), Skin Irritation, Nervousness, Head Headache, Fainting, Ringing In Ears, Abdomen Pain, Nausea, Vomit, Easy Bruising
