National Doctor’s Day, which occurs on July 1st, is meant to bring attention to the service of all physicians and their contribution to individual health and medical progress. Story of Doctor’s Day in India:
The history says, that in the year 1882, July 1st saw the birth of renowned Physician and partisan Dr. Bidhan Chandra Roy. He is remembered till date for actively involving himself in starting many institutions, hospitals and was fully dedicated to the upliftment of Indian society. Doctor’s Day is observed to pay tribute to Dr B C Roy and salutes the spirit of his dedication. The red carnation was chosen as the official symbol of Doctors Day because of the color of the flower is in spirit of characters of medical profession. It represents adoration, charity, sacrifice, bravery and audacity.

The large population of India depends on the efficiency and responsibility of physicians to a large extent at all times Medical professionals in India over the years have shown remarkable improvements and made definite progress in medical treatments that need to be acknowledged· It may also be seen as an encouragement and an eye opener to all such doctors who have been struck by a failing career owing to a lack of commitment There have been instances of public violence and protests against doctors when they have failed to perform.

US and other western countries commemorate Doctor’s Day on March 30 in memory of the day when Dr. Crawford W. Long first used ether anesthesia in surgery to remove a tumor from a patient’s neck.
