PIMOZIDE is a Schedule H drug.
Pimozide works by changing the actions of chemicals in the brain.Pimozide is used in people with Tourette’s syndrome. Pimozide suppresses the physical (motor) and vocal (phonic) symptoms of tics when these symptoms interfere with daily life function.Pimozide is not for use in treating motor tics that are not caused by Tourette’s syndrome. It works by blocking the action of dopamine, a chemical messenger in the brain that affects thoughts and mood.

Precautions

  • You should not use this medicine if you have long QT syndrome.
  • You should not use this medicine if you are allergic to pimozide or other antipsychotic medicines.
  • Follow all directions on your prescription label and read all medication guides or instruction sheets.
  • Your doctor may occasionally change your dose. Use the medicine exactly as directed.
  • Do not stop using pimozide suddenly, or you could have unpleasant withdrawal symptoms.
  • Do not take two doses at one time.
  • Avoid driving or hazardous activity until you know how this medicine will affect you,Your reactions could be impaired.
  • Grapefruit may interact with pimozide and lead to unwanted side effects.
  • Your blood electrolyte level (magnesium, potassium) should be regularly monitored.
  • Do not change your dose or stop taking pimozide, even if you are feeling well, as this may worsen your symptoms.
