Overview

METHYSERGIDE is a Schedule H drug.
Methysergide is used in the prevention of Vascular Headaches. This medication is a partially synthetic compound, prescribed for prevention or reduction of intensity and frequency of vascular headaches.  It may work by narrowing blood vessels in the head.

Precautions

  • Caution should be exercised in patients with history of autoimmune disease, hardening/inflammation of the arteries, blood clots, Raynaud’s disease, stroke, uncontrolled high blood pressure, heart disease, scarring caused by a drug, severe infection, liver disease, lung disease, kidney disease, migraine, nutrient deficiency, urinary blockage, any allergy, who are taking other medications, during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
  • It may cause dizziness or drowsiness, do not drive a car or operate machinery while taking this medication.

METHYSERGIDE : Congestive Heart Disease, Eosinophilia, Nausea, Vomit, Loose Motion, Heartburn, Abdomen Pain, Seizures (uncontrollable Jerking Of Limbs), Dizziness, Lightheadedness, Hair Loss, Weight Gain, Joint Pain

Food Interactions

  • Nicotine may increase the effects of methysergide maleate in narrowing the blood vessels and decreasing blood flow. A severe decrease in blood flow to the brain and other parts of the body can lead to dangerous side effects. Contact your doctor immediately if you experience coldness, paleness, discoloration, numbness, tingling, or pain in your hands or feet, muscle pain or weakness, severe or worsening headache blurred vision, severe abdominal pain; chest pain or shortness of breath while taking these medications.
  • Grapefruit juice may increase the blood levels and effects of certain medications such as methysergide maleate. You may want to limit your consumption of grapefruit and grapefruit juice during treatment with methysergide maleate.
