BUSULFAN

Overview

BUSULFAN is a Schedule H drug.
Busulfan taken by mouth is used to treat the symptoms of chronic myelogenous leukemia (a type of blood cancer). Busulfan injection is used together with a medicine called cyclophosphamide, to prepare your body to receive a stem cell transplant from a donor’s bone marrow. It is also used for bone marrow transplantation. It can cause nausea and painful sores in the mouth. Women should not get pregnant while on busulfan. Busulfan belongs to a group of drugs called alkylating agents. Common side effects of busulfan include nausea, fever, diarrhea, and loss of appetite.

Precautions

  • It may cause dizziness, do not drive a car or operate machinery while taking this medication.
  • Avoid alcohol consumption.
  • Avoid vaccination: Do not have immunizations/vaccinations without the consent of your doctor. Avoid contact with people who have recently received live vaccines.
  • It may cause lung toxicity; if so stop the medication.
  • It may cause infertility, consult with your doctor for any queries.
  • Before taking busulfan, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to it or if you have any other allergies. This product may contain inactive ingredients, which can cause allergic reactions or other problems.

BUSULFAN : Skin Rash, Itchy Skin, Dry Skin, Black (tar) Colored Stools, Abdomen Pain, Blood Or Red Colored Urine, Bloody Or Red Colored Stools, Eyes Blurred Vision, Chest Pain, Cough, Dizziness, Irregular Heartbeat, Pounding Heart (pulse), Fever, Chills, Head Headache, Lower Back Pain, Nervousness, Difficulty Urinating, Slow Heart Rate (pulse), Eyes Swelling, Body Bruising, Weight Gain, Eyes Yellow Eyes
