Celecoxib is a cox-2 non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) used in the treatment of osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, acute pain, painful menstruation and menstrual symptoms, and to reduce numbers of colon and rectum polyps in patients with familial adenomatous polyposis. Celecoxib blocks the enzyme that makes prostaglandins (cyclooxygenase 2), resulting in lower concentrations of prostaglandins. As a consequence, inflammation and its accompanying pain, fever, swelling and tenderness are reduced. Celecoxib is used to treat juvenile rheumatoid arthritis in children who are at least 2 years old.

Precautions for OSTIGARD 100MG CAP and its Constituents


  • A patient with other co-existing diseases like liver disease, heart disease, kidney disease should take special precautions.
  • If you are having surgery, including dental surgery, tell the doctor or dentist that you are taking celecoxib.
  • Take care if have any of the conditions mentioned in the impotent warning section or asthma, especially if you also have frequent stuffed or runny nose or nasal polyps.
  • Kidney problems can sometimes occur with the use of NSAID medications, including celecoxib. Drink plenty of fluids as directed by your doctor to prevent dehydration and tell your doctor right away if you have a change in the amount of urine.
  • This medicine may cause stomach bleeding. Daily use of alcohol and tobacco, especially when combined with this medicine, may increase your risk for stomach bleeding. Limit alcohol and smoking.
  • This medication passes into breast milk. While there have been no reports of harm to nursing infants, consult your doctor before breast-feeding.
