CORTECYCLINE EYE OINT is a Schedule H antibiotic.

CORTECYCLINE EYE OINT is composed of: HYDROCORTISONE (10 MG), TETRACYCLINE (10 MG)

Hydrocortisone is a topical steroid that reduces the actions of chemicals in the body that cause inflammation. Hydrocortisone topical is used to treat inflammation of the skin caused by a number of conditions such as allergic reactions, eczema, or psoriasis. Hydrocortisone topical will not treat skin infections. This medication is a corticosteroid, prescribed for severe allergies, arthritis, asthma, multiple sclerosis and skin conditions.  It is also used to treat certain types of cancer.
Tetracycline is an antibiotic. It stops bacterial growth by preventing synthesis of essential proteins required by bacteria to carry out vital functions.This antibiotic treats only bacterial infections. It will not work for viral infections. Using any antibiotic when it is not needed can cause it to not work for future infections.Tetracycline can also be used in combination with anti-ulcer medications to treat certain types of stomach ulcers.

Precautions for CORTECYCLINE EYE OINT and its Constituents


Caution should be exercised in patients with history of liver, kidney, intestinal, or heart disease, diabetes, underactive thyroid gland, high blood pressure, mental illness, myasthenia gravis, osteoporosis, herpes eye infection, seizures, tuberculosis (TB), ulcers, any allergy, who are taking other medications, during pregnancy and breastfeeding. It may cause dizziness, do not drive a car or operate machinery while taking this medication. Avoid contact with people who have infections. It may cause unusual changes in vision; if it is so consult with your doctor. It may affect blood sugar; monitor blood sugar level regularly while taking this medication. Do not take by mouth. Topical medicine is for use only on the skin. Rinse with water if this medication gets in your eyes. Avoid using skin products that can cause irritation, such as harsh soaps, shampoos, hair coloring or permanent chemicals, hair removers or waxes, or skin products with alcohol, spices, astringents, or lime.
  • You should not use this medicine if you are allergic to tetracycline or similar medicines.
  • Take tetracycline exactly as it was prescribed for you. Follow all directions on your prescription label.
  • Do not take this medicine in larger or smaller amounts or for longer than recommended.
  • Take tetracycline on an empty stomach, at least 1 hour before or 2 hours after a meal.
  • Do not take this medicine with milk or other dairy products, unless your doctor has told you to. Dairy products can make it harder for your body to absorb the medicine.
  • Shake the oral suspension  well just before you measure a dose. Measure liquid medicine with the dosing syringe provided, or with a special dose-measuring spoon or medicine cup.
  • If you use this medicine long-term, you may need frequent medical tests.
  • Use this medicine for the full prescribed length of time.
  • Do not take extra medicine to make up the missed dose.
  • For at least 2 hours before or 2 hours after taking tetracycline: avoid taking iron supplements, multivitamins, calcium supplements, antacids, or laxatives.
  • Antibiotic medicines can cause diarrhea, which may be a sign of a new infection. If you have diarrhea that is watery or bloody, call your doctor. Do not use anti-diarrhea medicine unless your doctor tells you to.
  • Avoid exposure to sunlight or tanning beds. Tetracycline can make you sunburn more easily. Wear protective clothing and use sunscreen when you are outdoors.
  • Tetracycline may cause live bacterial vaccines to not work as well. Do not have any immunizations/vaccinations while using this medication.

TETRACYCLINE : Diarrhoea, Hairy Tongue, Nausea, Vomit, Abdomen Upset Stomach, Mouth Soreness, Loss Of Appetite, Swollen Tongue, Vagina Discharge Or Mucus, Eyes Sensitive To Light, Frequent Urination, Increased Thirst, Fatigue (tiredness), Head Headache, Abdomen Pain, Abdomen Stomach Cramps, Genitals Itching, Lightheadedness, Dizziness

Serious Side-Effects

HYDROCORTISONE : Chest Pain, Seizures (uncontrollable Jerking Of Limbs)
TETRACYCLINE : Muscle Pain, Acute Kidney Failure, Vision Problems, Difficulty Swallowing, Body Discoloration, Hands Tingling, Feet Tingling, Ringing In Ears, Hearing Loss, Easy Bleeding, Eyes Yellow Eyes, Dark Colored (brown) Urine
