Tinea Infection: Symptom and Causes

Symptoms

Red skin rash forming a ring around normal looking skin
  • Itchy, red raised scaly patches that may blister and ooze and may have sharply defined edges
  • Infection of the hair may cause development of bald patches
  • Infection of the nails may cause the nails to become discolored, thick and even crumbled

Causes

It is a parasitic infection caused by fungi (dermatophytes) of several different species. These fungi live in warm and moist areas and feed on keratin which is the material found in the outer layer of the skin, hair and nails. It can be spread by sharing sport goods, towels, and clothing.
