Pilonidal Cyst: Symptom and Causes

Symptoms

The symptoms of a pilonidal cyst include:
  • Pain, swelling and redness at the bottom of the spine
  • Pus or blood draining from the abscess, causing a foul smell
  • Hair protruding from the lesion
  • Fever

Causes

Most pilonidal cysts appear to be caused by Friction and pressure- skin rubbing against skin, tight clothing, bicycling, long periods of sitting or similar factors. Other factors may include change in hormones, excess body hair and infection.
