Prevention Tips

  • Use these strategies to prevent the spread of virus
  • Wash your hands with soap and water
  • Cover mouth and nose when sneezing and coughing
  • Handle food with clean hands
  • Properly immunize your child (see the childrens immunization schedule)
  • Give healthy food including fruits and vegetables

Watch Out

  • No urine output in 8 to 12 hours
  • Dry cracked lips and/or mouth
  • No tears when crying
  • Seizures 

When to See Doctor

Consult a doctor if your child is
  • Younger than 4 months old and has a temperature of 100.4ø F or greater
  • Constantly crying, irritable, inconsolable and behaving sick
  • Drooling more than usual and having difficulty swallowing
  • Has a stiff neck or headache and fever.
  • Has purple spots (rash) on the skin
  • Has difficulty breathing, unless it is due to a stuffy nose
  • Having febrile seizures
  • If fever persists for more than 3days
