There is no known way to prevent bipolar disorder. However, there are ways to reduce the frequency and severity of symptoms and prevent the condition from worsening.
  • Adopt healthy lifestyle habits which help get good quality sleep
  • Become more physically active.
  • Develop a hobby
  • Try being calm and do relaxation exercises
  • Keep a regular routine, such as eating meals at the same time every day and going to sleep at the same time every night
  • Address symptoms immediately
  • Avoid alcohol and other substances
  • Take medications as directed

  • Binge drinking or drug use
  • Suicidal thoughts or behaviour

  • Feeling hopeless, sad, or empty
  • Irritability
