Post Inflammatory Hyperpigmentation: Symptom and Causes

Symptoms

  • One or more areas of darker brown or sometimes red-brown discolouration.
  • The appearance varies in size, shape, and location depending upon the cause of skin injury.

Causes

Acne is a common cause of PIH. Other causes include
  • Skin infections
  • Allergic reactions
  • Mechanical injuries
  • Reactions to medications
  • Trauma (e.g. burns)
  • Inflammatory reactions (e.g. acne, dermatitis)
  • Overproduction of melanin following inflammation of the skin




Postinflammatory hypermelanosis, melanin, dark skin, pigments, more pigmentation, PIH, Post Inflammatory Hyperpigmentation problems, Post Inflammatory Hyperpigmentation signs,
