Symptoms

The symptoms of PCOS can vary from woman to woman. Some of the symptoms of PCOS include:
  • Infertility (not able to get pregnant) 
  • Infrequent, absent, and/or irregular menstrual periods
  • Hirsutism- increased hair growth on the face, chest, stomach, back, thumbs, or toes
  • Acne, oily skin, or dandruff
  • Weight gain or obesity, usually extra weight around the waist
  • Hair loss or thinning hair
  • Skin discolourations 
  • Pelvic pain
  • Anxiety or depression
  • High blood pressure, high cholesterol, or high levels of sugar in your blood

Causes

The cause of PCOS is unknown.  It is likely to be the result of a number of both genetic (inherited) as well as environmental factors. It may be due to hormonal imbalance and excess of insulin production in a women body.
