Swine Flu – Punjab & Haryana, in India

On January 20 2016, Punjab recorded the first swine flu death of the year in the city of Mohali. By 10th February there have been 31 deaths. The dead were from Ferozpur, Bathinda, Muktsar, Faridkot, Ludhiana, Fatehgarh Sahib, Moga and Mansa. Out of 165 samples collected 51 were H1N1 positive.

In neighboring Haryana, 4 deaths due to swine flu have been reported. The patients who have died belong to Hisar, Fatehbad and Jind districts. 24 H1N1 positive cases were reported till 10th February.

As per officials in Punjab, patients are coming to hospital too late. If people with swine-flu symptoms come early, they can be treated well. There is sufficient number of Tamiflu tablets etc. for the treatment.
Symptoms are classified under 3 categories.
  • Category A Symptoms – cough and cold, fever, watering nose
  • Category B Symptoms – high fever, severe cold and cough, tiredness, breathing problem, severe headache
  • Category C Symptoms – symptoms of category B leading to severe Pneumonia
People with B and C categories should consult a doctor as early as possible.

Reason of such rapid increase in Swine Flu cases is unawareness among majority of people regarding precautionary measures or taking them lightly despite of knowing them. Arm yourself with the knowledge and fight against the disease.
