Prevention Tips

  • Drink more water. Proper hydration helps thin mucus which allows it slide down the throat more freely
  • Stop drinking caffeine. Coffee, tea, soda and energy drinks cause an overabundance of mucus, which can lead to postnasal drip
  • Sleep with a humidifier in the room to add humidity to the air, which keeps the nasal membranes moist
  • Wash hands regularly

Watch Out

  • Drainage is foul smelling, one-sided, or a color other than white or yellow
  • Teary eyes, itchiness of the nose and eyes, and headaches
  • Bad breath

When to See Doctor

Consult a doctor if you experience symptoms like:
  • Excess throat mucous
  • Difficulty swallowing 
  • Difficulty breathing or choking spells
  • Troublesome or annoying cough
  • Hoarseness or problems with your voice
