Prevention Tips

  • Keep any wounds clean and covered with clean, dry bandages until they heal
  • Do not share personal items. Use your own towel, soap, clothes, and other personal items
  • Keep your skin clean. Wash your skin and hair every day. Wash your hands often. Use soap and water
  • Apply softeners, lubricants, or moisturizing creams to your skin regularly

Watch Out

  • Multiple furuncles (carbuncles) form in the same area
  • Fever
  • Skin surrounding the area becomes red, swollen, and warm

When to See Doctor

Consult a doctor if you have
  • Increased pain, redness, or swelling around the infected area
  • Multiple furuncles appear 
  • Fever
  • Pus coming out or has a foul smell
